Measurement tips
Footprint dimensions are only a starting point. Overhangs, dormers, valleys, hips and multiple roof sections add area. For complex roofs, measure each plane separately or use verified plan dimensions rather than relying on a single rectangle.
Choosing a waste allowance
Roofing waste depends heavily on roof shape and product. Simple gable roofs can be relatively efficient; hips, valleys, dormers and architectural shingles generate more cuts. Manufacturer installation instructions should take priority over a generic allowance.
