Wall area is room perimeter × wall height. Multiply by the number of coats, subtract openings if entered, and divide by the product coverage.
Planning example
A 12 ft × 10 ft room with 8 ft walls has 352 sq ft of wall area before openings. Two coats require about 704 sq ft of coverage.

What this calculator includes
This calculator estimates wall-paint quantity from room perimeter, wall height, openings, coat count and rated coverage. Paint coverage on the can is a laboratory-style estimate; textured walls, porous surfaces, dramatic color changes and application method can change real usage.
Measurement tips
Measure the room length and width, then wall height. The calculator converts the perimeter into wall area. You can subtract the approximate area of doors and windows, but on many rooms it is reasonable to keep small openings in the estimate because cutting-in and touch-ups consume paint too.
Choosing a waste allowance
A small extra allowance helps with roller loading, tray loss, touch-ups and future repairs. Coverage drops on bare drywall, masonry, rough texture or highly absorbent surfaces, so primer and additional paint may be necessary even if the square-foot math looks sufficient.
