What this calculator includes
This calculator estimates tile coverage area and adds a waste allowance for cuts and breakage. It can also estimate whole boxes when you enter the coverage printed on the carton. The correct allowance depends on layout, tile size, pattern and room geometry.
Measurement tips
Measure the surface that will actually be tiled. Split irregular floors or walls into simple rectangles. For backsplashes and walls, include all tiled sections but exclude large openings when appropriate.
Choosing a waste allowance
Straight layouts with standard tile may need roughly 10% extra, while diagonal patterns, large-format tile, natural stone and rooms with many corners can require more. Keeping spare matching tile for future repairs can also be worthwhile.
