What this calculator includes
This calculator converts a known wall or ceiling area into an estimated number of drywall sheets, then adds waste and rounds up. It is best when you already know the total surface area. Sheet orientation, room geometry and framing layout can change the most efficient sheet size.
Measurement tips
Calculate each wall as width × height and add the ceiling if it will also be covered. Large openings can be subtracted, but small openings often do not save a full sheet because the surrounding pieces still have to be cut from whole boards.
Choosing a waste allowance
Extra sheets cover damaged boards, offcuts and inefficient layouts. Ten percent is a practical starting point on ordinary rooms, while small spaces, stairwells and rooms with many corners may need more.
